Porsche 993 Cabriolet
“In the beginning I looked around but couldn’t find the car I dreamt of, so I decided to build it myself.” Ferry Porsche
Recognized as one of the most complete sportscars in the world, the Porsche 993 epitomized the air-cooled era and was the last of its kind. It marks a momentous milestone for Porsche: it is the link between the new and the traditional. The 993 is a true icon from the 90’s, as a matter of fact has appeared in movies and TV series that embrace the pop culture phenomenon of that decade, such as The Simpsons, Love & Other Drugs and Die Another Day.
It’s quite rare to find one in mint condition on the market. And it’s not just scarcity that boosted the prices of the 993 in the past years…
The Porsche 993 is the internal designation for the Porsche 911 model manufactured and sold between January 1994 and early 1998, replacing the 964. Its discontinuation marked the end of air-cooled 911 models.
The 993 was much improved over and quite different from its predecessor. According to Porsche, every part of the car was designed from the ground up, including the engine and only 20% of its parts were carried over from the previous generation.
Porsche refers to the 993 as a significant advance, not just from a technical, but also a visual perspective. The 993 quickly gained a reputation for its exceptional design and reliability. It was also agile as it was the first 911 with the newly designed aluminum chassis.
The 993 was powered by a new 3.6-litre engine, which developed 272 hp and was the first 911 to have a six-speed transmission.
