Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spider
According to the best known story, the color Giallo Fly was inspired by Fiamma Breschi, the girlfriend of Luigi Musso, who died while racing for Ferrari in Formula 1 – wearing a yellow helmet. Ms. Breschi later became a significant person for all of Enzo Ferrari’s life – some claim lover, some claim close friend and confidant.
The more likely story, however, is that Fly was the name of a successful race horse at the time – as is the case for many other Ferrari colors, and developed within Ferrari.
There are marked differences between the European and American versions of the Daytona Spyder: with only 19 out of 121 belonging to the former, including this one, let’s take a look at what these are.
Let’s start with the chassis: only the European cars are GTS/4 proper, given the US cars are stamped GTB/4 - and don’t have the coveted -A chassis.
Additionally, the engine is different across most major components, from the carburetors to the exhaust system, from the camshafts to the distributors, not to mention the lack of the emissions control system limiting performance while filling up the engine bay.
Finally, the looks of the car: with no side reflectors, two tone side markers, different details on the interiors and more, the lines of the Euro cars are precisely what they were meant to be.

Two years later, the car was back in the U.S., and has been lovingly maintained in two collections since; first on the East Coast, where it was partially refurbished by Autosport, the other in West Hollywood - in the hands of a notable collector, who had the Daytona regularly maintained by Ferrari Beverly Hills, where it was certified by Ferrari Classiche.
